about

Entanglement is about the phenomenon of quantum entanglement, and it was inspired by breakthroughs that happened in the physics world in 2020, as well as by a Vodou ceremony I was invited to attend in New Orleans during the pandemic.

Quantum entanglement describes a relationship between certain types of particles that exist in a state of connection to each other such that their quantum states cannot be described independently of each other.
For instance if one particle of an entangled pair is observed to spin clockwise, the other will be observed to spin counter-clockwise, and this correlation continues despite vast expanses of space between them, defying the laws of classical physics.

This piece of music takes that concept and applies the metaphor to two different phenomena.

The first is about death: the separation of the body from the spirit. The second is about the process of using ritual in the physical world to invoke a spirit, such as one of the lwa (the spirits worshipped in Vodou). This could be seen as a means of bringing spirit into the body.

Thus, these two phenomena could be described as polarized, not unlike the inverse spin of two quantum particles in an entangled state.
